A proposed settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit involving Equifax and the alleged reporting of duplicate collection accounts on consumer reports. The lawsuit alleges that reporting the same collection account more than once is a violation of the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Equifax denies that it did anything wrong, and the Court has not decided which side is right. The parties have agreed to settle to avoid the cost and risk of further litigation.
